Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights
Barter Theatre's Smith Stage, Readings at 1pm, 4pm and 7:30pm
This annual new play reading festival celebrates the richness of the Appalachian tradition by showcasing the stories of the region, both past and present, and the inspiration it provides the writers who live here.
Each year, Barter chooses 7 new plays for public readings, featuring members of Barter's Resident Acting Company. After each reading there is a discussion with a panel of local and regional theatre professionals, and then the discussion is opened up to the audience for their feedback. This process has been instrumental in helping playwrights develop their work, which could lead to a full production on one of Barter's two stages.
AFPP readings are free admission to the public, and the reading will take place at Smith Theatre. No reservation is required for attendance, but we would love to know you're coming. You can RSVP with our Box Office by calling 276-628-3991.
