William King Museum of Art
This exhibition will explore how women in our region have engaged with the political sphere through the act of making. The focus will be on the current work of a selected group of contemporary women artists working in Appalachia. Their work brings a variety of political issues in to focus from environmental concerns, women’s rights, labor, and activism in general. The contemporary work will be supported by historical artifacts from the Women’s Suffrage movement in Virginia and will also mark the centennial of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. It is our hope that this exhibition will encourage all women in the region to utilize their rights to continually and actively participate in the political sphere to better their communities.
