Virginia Highlands Festival Opening Ceremony

William King Museum of Art, 5:30 PM-9:00 PM

For the first time in its 71-year history, the Virginia Highlands Festival is kicking off with an opening ceremony.

Bring the whole family, your favorite lawn chair or blanket, and your sense of adventure to see the opening of our immersive story, "The Wolf Crystal."  We've taken the legendary story of Abingdon's wolves, added a touch of magic with the all-powerful Wolf Crystal, and created a performance filled with music, dance, puppets, and good old-fashioned storytelling.

We'll have ice cream, lemonade, and snacks available. Be the first to get your Festival t-shirt, meet the artists who put this year's Festival together, and celebrate the kick off of our favorite week of the summer!

We'll be out under the stars at the William King Museum of Art in the sculpture garden. If it rains, we'll have the event on Friday night, July 26 at the same time.

Y'all, we've never done anything like this before, so help us plan for the crowds by letting us know you're coming. We want everyone to be safe and have an amazing time. Can't wait to see you!

Timeline for the evening:
5:30 PM - If you'd like to come early, the William King Museum of Art is staying open late for us so we can see the exhibits and meet the artists who created "The Wolf Crystal."
8 PM - food vendors open outside
8:30 PM - the show begins
9 PM - the show ends and we all go home to rest up for the Festival the next day!
