Crisp mountain air, vibrant fall foliage, cozy cafés, scenic trails, and community traditions create the perfect backdrop for a memorable getaway in Abingdon, Virginia.
Main Street Trick or Treat: Experience Halloween the Small-Town Way in Abingdon, Virginia
There’s something special about Halloween in a small town. It’s the familiar faces behind the candy bowls, the shop owners who decorate their storefronts, the neighbors who turn their front porches into Halloween destinations, and the sound of kids laughing as they make their way down Main Street in search of their next sweet treat.
On Saturday, October 24, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM, downtown Abingdon invites families to experience that kind of Halloween at Main Street Trick or Treat, a
community tradition that offers a different kind of experience from the modern-day trunk-or-treat.
Instead of walking from car to car in a parking lot, families can stroll along historic Main Street, visit local businesses, meet community members, and enjoy Halloween in the heart of Abingdon. It’s a chance to slow down, take in the decorations, and experience what it feels like to be part of a community where neighbors come together to make something special for local kids and visitors alike.
A Halloween That Brings Main Street to Life
Main Street Trick or Treat is all about community connection. Businesses and residents throughout downtown open their doors, decorate their spaces, and hand out candy to the little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses making their way along the street.
For children, it’s an evening of costumes, candy, and Halloween excitement. For parents, it’s an opportunity to introduce their kids to the charm of downtown Abingdon while supporting the local businesses and people who make this community what it is.
And for those visiting from outside the area, it’s a chance to experience a little piece of Appalachian small-town life. You don’t have to live here to feel like part of the community.
More Places to Trick or Treat This Year
This year, Main Street Trick or Treat is expanding its footprint to give participating organizations more room to spread out and help families enjoy a smoother experience throughout downtown.
Organizations and groups that aren’t located directly along the Main Street footprint are invited to set up at these additional locations:
Fields-Penn Lawn
Martha Washington Inn Lawn
Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church Parking Lot
These additional spaces offer more opportunities for community organizations to participate, hand out candy, and join the fun. Be sure to explore the expanded footprint as you make your way through downtown!
