Eat, Explore and Enjoy Southwest Virginia

Eat, Explore and Enjoy Southwest Virginia (Four-Day)

Wilburn Ridge Mile 493.1 on the Appalachian Trail in VA

Early Spring to Late Fall

Check-in to one of our unique lodging choices. Once you’re settled in, head out for a Rooted in Appalachia dinner on our historic Main Street – where you won’t find a single chain restaurant or shop. Before heading back, take a stroll on our brick-lined sidewalk or go for a short walk out to a trestle for a scenic view on the Virginia Creeper Trail.

After breakfast, stop by a local cafe to pick up a boxed lunch for your outdoor adventure – try Zazzy’z or White Birch Food and Juice. Head up the road to Damascus, VA and hike up Backbone Rock to enjoy the beautiful mountains of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee with your picnic lunch. On your way back into town, stop by Wolf Hills Brewing Co. for local craft beer and live music. Then walk over to Rain Restaurant & Bar for a late dinner.

Grab a tasty breakfast and a cup of coffee at Chick n’ Little before heading to the Virginia Creeper Trail Bike Shop for today’s fun. After you’re outfitted, the shop will shuttle you to the top of Whitetop Mountain – Virginia’s 2nd highest mountain peak. Enjoy the ride down the trail through the Jefferson National Forrest while keeping those feet up – you won’t need to pedal much. Once you’ve arrived in downtown Damascus grab a bite to eat before taking the shuttle back to Abingdon. Once you’ve cleaned up, head up our historic Main Street and visit our unique shops. Stop by 128 Pecan for a locally-sourced dinner before your show at the historic Barter Theatre. Afterwards, stop by Anthony’s Desserts for a decadent pastry and coffee.

Before heading home, stop by Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway and check out the best artisan craft, heritage music and local wine our region has to offer. Make sure to check out the Interactive Mountain to plan your next Southwest Virginia exploration.
