    Join the William King Museum of Art in celebrating regional sculpture with Out in the Open: Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition. After an open call for submissions from sculptors throughout the Appalachian region, the selected works will be unveiled in WKMA's sculpture garden as part of Abingdon's monthly First Thursday event on August 4, 2016. The final pieces were chosen by guest juror Lauren Ross, Curator of the Institute of Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University and will be on view in WKMA's sculpture garden through 2018.

    The Gallery @ Barr Photographics announces the inaugural installment of the Corner Gallery’s 2018 exhibition series with a collection of fiber art weavings entitled “Wild Crafted and Recycled” by Abingdon, Virginia artist, Jane Wilson.  Jane reveals in her Artist’s Statement, “I grew up close to the land and have spent my entire life in the same proximity.  I love gathering native materials and creating art from them.  I hope viewers of my art gain an appreciation of the natural world and the bounty of their immediate surroundings, realizing that beautiful art can be wildcrafted and upcycled from found objects and natural materials”.  “Wild Crafted and Recycled” will be celebrated with a reception and gallery talk by Jane Wilson, to which the public is cordially invited, on Friday, 09 February from 7 - 9:00 PM in The Gallery @ Barr Photographics, 152 E.     The Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music Homecoming is an annual nine-day, region-wide celebration of the communities in Southwest Virginia – their traditional music, and all of their many cultural and natural assets. The event includes Crooked Road concerts in over 20 communities, over 100 cultural experiences throughout the region, and over 70 existing traditional music related concerts, jam sessions, and festivals. Each night from two to four Crooked Road music concerts of old time, bluegrass, gospel, traditional singing and dance are presented in different communities' outdoor and indoor venues such as downtown streets, theatres, state parks, colleges, and arts centers. Come for the evening concerts and stay for a wide variety of cultural experiences. Homecoming attendees will enjoy community meals, jam sessions, wine tastings, film festivals, instrument making demonstrations, dances, historic church tours, guided hikes, quilt exhibits, river floats, cave hikes, and story telling.  Tickets will be made available on the event website at www.mtnsofmusic.com as well as available locally.
