    Join the William King Museum of Art in celebrating regional sculpture with Out in the Open: Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition. After an open call for submissions from sculptors throughout the Appalachian region, the selected works will be unveiled in WKMA's sculpture garden as part of Abingdon's monthly First Thursday event on August 4, 2016. The final pieces were chosen by guest juror Lauren Ross, Curator of the Institute of Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University and will be on view in WKMA's sculpture garden through 2018.

Opening Reception for Artists Kathy Gibian and Sarah Nobles-"Through their Eyes" Working in acrylic & oil, two artists explore their landscapes through a lense of clarification. Gibian uses geometric forms to build dreamy landscapes while Nobles uses soft shapes and tecture to produce romanticized and recognizable rural settings. Rudolph and his nose come to the rescue, lighting the way to Christmas, and everyone discovers that being different can be the greatest gift of all.
