Christmas in Abingdon

Experience a classic small-town Christmas

Historic downtown Abingdon is full of charms during the holidays.  Escape to Abingdon for a winter weekend getaway, and take care of your holiday shopping while you take in the twinkling lights and cozy eateries on Main Street.

PLAY

Take your seat for a heartwarming holiday show at the Barter Theatre, famous for launching the careers of Gregory Peck, Ernest Borgnine and Patricia Neal.   This season, enjoy a lavish production of A Christmas Carol in the beautiful 500-seat theatre, originally built 1830, or head across the street to Barter Stage II for the sweet and funny family comedy Over the River and Through the Woods.

Dinner at The Tavern, built in 1779, is a do-not-miss experience. One of Abingdon’s oldest buildings, it served as a hospital for wounded Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War.

More ways to play: Travel just twenty minutes to where the roar of the engines is replaced with the twinkling of two million lights along Bristol Motor Speedway’s holiday celebration, Speedway in Lights. Find out more >
