Overmountain Victory Trail

Stretching 330 miles through four states (Virginia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina) the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail traces the route used by patriot militia during the pivotal Kings Mountain campaign of 1780. Follow the campaign by utilizing a Commemorative Motor Route which uses existing state highways marked with the distinctive trail logo, as well as 87 miles of walkable pathways.

National historic trails recognize original trails or routes of travel of national historic significance including past routes of exploration, migration, and military action, and require an act of Congress to be created.  

Abingdon, VA is the northern trailhead of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. 

Visit The Abingdon Muster Grounds to walk the first .75 miles of the trail and learn more about the significance of the Battle of Kings Mountain to American history. 

The Keller Interpretive Center at The Muster Grounds contains exhibits on the Overmountain Men and Colonial Backcountry history. Plus, check the schedule for historic reenactments and commemorative events.
